Piccadilly Christmas concert showcases top classical music

The annual Piccadilly Christmas concert being held on December 14th offers a great alternative to other busy festive events.

Being held for the fifth year, the concert is a must for classical music fans staying in central London hotels over the Christmas holiday.

St James' Church in the centre of the West End provides the amazing backdrop to some of the country's leading classical musicians and is the perfect way to get into the festive mood.

This year's event will include an appearance by Warren Mailley-Smith, one of Britain's leading concert pianists. He will perform using candlelight on the church's grand piano and the audience can expect to hear renditions of Mozart's piano concerto K414 in A major, Beethoven's Tempest Sonata, the Chopin's Four Scherzos and Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue.

Mailley-Smith has regularly played with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and for the royal family. The concert will take place from 7pm to 11pm and tickets are priced at £15 for adults and £12 for concessions.

The following day will see the church's annual performance of Handel's Messiah with The Georgian Camerata and solo singers Robyn Allegra Parton, William Purefoy, Stuart Jackson and Marcus Farnsworth. Tickets start at £12 each for the December 15th event.

The nearby Trafalgar Christmas Tree is also a must for people enjoying Christmas in London. Every year the tree travels 700 miles from Oslo to London.  The tree's lights will be lit in a special ceremony on December 6th and will be attended by the Lord Mayor of Westminster, the mayor of Oslo, St Martin in the Fields choir and the Salvation Army.
