Guests staying in Montcalm Hotels London will be able to catch some classic theatre at Shakespeare’s Globe on the South Bank this summer.
Anne Boleyn, written by Howard Brenton and directed by John Dove, will be returning to the iconic theatre from July 8th following a sell-out run last year.
The play begins as the newly-crowned James I discovers the controversial legacy of Henry VIII’s second wife while hunting through an old chest.
Jumping back 70 years, the action then focuses on the “witty and flirtatious” Ms Boleyn who, while in love with King Henry, also has other ideas.
Together with the exiled William Tyndale, she conspires to make England a protestant country forever.
Her actions are to have a profound impact on King James as he later attempted to unite England’s religious factions with his common authorised Bible.
The role of Anne Boleyn is played by Miranda Raison, who the Independent on Sunday claimed has an “instant rapport” with the audience.
“John Dove’s elegant production with period chamber music is rich, invigorating, historical drama,” the Daily Mail added.
Shakespeare’s Globe sits on the South Bank of the River Thames in the cultural quarter. It is an outdoor replica built to resemble the original structure, which burnt to the ground in 1613.
Other productions coming to the theatre include the Globe Mysteries from August 5th and the God of Soho from August 27th.
Luxury accommodation in a 5 star hotel in London could be the icing on the cake for those planning a break in the capital to catch Anne Boleyn at Shakespeare’s Globe.
As well as an overnight stay in a luxury suite, theatregoers could also take advantage of added extras such as luxury bathrobes, complimentary toiletries and free in-room massages at The Montcalm hotel.
