Best places to watch the Thames Diamond Jubilee pageant

It’s set to be an extraordinary spectacle; more than a thousand boats parading down the River Thames on Sunday June 3rd in honour of Her Majesty the Queen.

The flotilla will muster between Hammersmith and Battersea and sail through central London before dispersing between Tower Bridge and West India Docks, passing dozens of popular spectator points along the way.

So where’s the best place to stand if you want to witness this historic event while staying in luxury hotels London this weekend? Here’s a run-down of some of the best spots.

Chelsea Embankment

Head to the area near Royal Hospital and you should get a great view of the boats as they begin their river journey. There will also be a number of large viewing screens along the length of the embankment.

Victoria Embankment

With wide pavements all the way down to Blackfriars, there will be plenty of room to assemble along this stretch of the river. Embankment and Temple tube stations will provide easy access via public transport.

Westminster Bridge

You’ll have to be prepared to get there very early as it will have limited public viewing areas, but if you can the Westminster Bridge could be the perfect viewing spot, offering amazing views of the boats approaching the Houses of Parliament.

City Hall

Viewing screens will not be erected here, but it could just be one of the best spots along the river, as from here you’ll be able to see the boats pass beneath Tower Bridge where the bascules will open in salute. There could be no better photo opportunity.

Wherever you choose to stand there will be plenty to see, as it will take the flotilla around 75 minutes to pass any given point on the river.

Transport for London is advising anyone intending to watch the pageant to choose which side of the Thames they wish to stand on and be there no later than 14:00 BST, since several of the city’s bridges will be closed to both traffic and pedestrians.
