The national football teams of England and Germany have never exactly been the best of friends, although after Deutschland’s unbelievable 7-1 victory over World Cup host nation Brazil in the semi-final last night (July 8th), general opinion seems to be turning in favour of the Germans.
Perhaps it’s all a case of ‘if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em’, which is why huge numbers of people not just in England but across the world are likely to be supporting Germany in the World Cup final, so that they can take part in the celebrations that follow.
And there’s no better place to do that than in London, where you’ll find a number of fantastic German-style bars, restaurants and beer halls, all of which are sure to be packed to the rafters if the country manages to emerge victorious in Sunday’s final.
Among the best of these is the Bavarian Beerhouse, which has branches in both Old Street and Tower Hill, and is modelled on the famous beer halls of Munich. As well as serving steins of the amber nectar, it also boasts a terrific menu of traditional Bavarian food, with the likes of schnitzel and much more on offer.
A range of events are also hosted at both venues, including screenings of Bundesliga football matches, so if you fancy keeping up with German footy after the World Cup is over then this is the place to do it.
Elsewhere, Katsenjammers can be found next to London Bridge, and offers a similar set-up to the Bavarian Beerhouse although it also provides live music on weekends and has become a firm favourite with the capital’s German community, as well as locals who simply want to experience something a little different.
There are many more fantastic German bars and restaurants to be found throughout London, many of which are within close proximity to some of the capital’s best luxury hotels.
