Celebrate the Festival of The City of London 2013

Every summer, the City of London hosts a colourful festival of music, dance, art and family events, which are held in popular addresses of the City. In the year 2012, it was the 50th anniversary of the festival. This year, the City of London festival is based on three themes: City walls, connecting the City of London with Londonderry and other historic walled cities from Utrecht to Jerusalem; conflict and resolution; and trees. The festival will take place from 23rd June to 26th July, 2013 in various parts of the city. The festival reflects the significant historical landmarks anniversaries.

World class concerts: Many great artists will gather in St. Paul’s Cathedral and three high-profile concerts is definitely to be attended. The concert which will start with Britten’s War Requiem, with the renowned City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and the choristers of St Paul’s Cathedral under the baton of Edward Gardner. Guests will also get to celebrate Handel’s Utrecht Te Deum. In addition to these performances, the London Symphony Orchestra and Tenebrae will also perform.

New commissions: The Festival will again bring a wealth of world class and new song cycle the working title Trees, Walls and Cities. There are 8 songs in the cycle which are written by local composers with local poets. This will reflect a coherent connection between the styles and characters of the songs and cities.

Bringing the City to life: At Sixes and Sevens, guests can enjoy orchestral work by the City of London and The Honourable The Irish Society to celebrate the 400-year relationship with Derry Londonderry. On the other side of the Thames, Mahogany Opera will perform in Southwark Cathedral.

The year 2013 promises to entertain and surprise the crowd with various cultural programmes.
