Staying in hotel accommodation in London is a great treat – but not as much of a treat as a visit to a magical chocolate factory!
While it might seem like the stuff of dreams, people staying in the montcalm london marble arch hotel this year can enjoy the wonderful world of Willy Wonka on the West End stage.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory opened at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane in June, bringing the magic of Roald Dahl’s children’s classic to amazed audiences.
The tale sees Charlie ushered into the secretive operation behind Wonka’s delicious candy after winning one of five coveted golden tickets. One by one his compatriots show their true colours and befall fitting catastrophes. Guided by a seemingly maniacal Wonka and his unusual helpers the Oompa Loompas, Charlie finds that being true to himself is the way to make his dreams become reality.
A stellar cast brings Mendes’ world to life, with Douglas Hodge as Willy Wonka and Nigel Planer as Grandpa Joe. Four children share the role of Charlie Bucket, with an additional 13 kids portraying golden ticket winners Augustus Gloop, Veruca Salt, Violet Beauregarde and Mike Teavee.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory has been given four stars by London’s Time Out – true praise indeed for this world premiere musical.
Tickets for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory cost between £25 and £90, meaning there’s a ticket for all budgets. It’s a great opportunity for a family outing as the show is recommended for children aged seven and up.
Performances have been confirmed right up to May 31st 2014, so there’s plenty of opportunity for guests at luxury London hotels to get their sugar fix. The show starts at 7:30pm from Monday to Saturday, with a 2pm matinee on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
Getting to the Theatre Royal Drury Lane couldn’t be simpler – just take the Piccadilly Line to Covent Garden and it’s a short walk to a world of pure imagination.
