Cirque du Soleil unveils Totem

Performance art lovers may soon be hunting for London hotel deals as Cirque du Soleil has returned with Totem at the Royal Albert Hall.

Boasting "jaw-dropping" acrobatics and storytelling, the group sets up shop in the world-famous venue for a limited four-week run spanning January 5th to February 5th 2012.

"Having already amazed more than 1.5 million people worldwide, Totem returns to the Royal Albert Hall for four weeks of awe-inspiring acrobatics," explained the group.

"Based on the order of species, Totem explores human evolution from its amphibian roots to the present day and beyond. Expect the exceptional acrobatics and contemporary circus performers that Cirque du Soleil is famous for."

Within easy reach of anyone staying in central London hotels, the Royal Albert Hall will play host to more than 50 performers, a wide variety of imaginative sets and beautiful costumes. The event will be directed by celebrated Canadian Robert Lepage, who promises to deliver a "unique and audacious spectacle" in one of London's most esteemed venues.

"Totem traces the fascinating journey of the human species from its original amphibian state to its ultimate desire to fly," say the performers.

"The characters evolve on a stage evoking a giant turtle, the symbol of origin for many ancient civilizations."

The display is inspired by myths from around the world and illustrates, through a visual and acrobatic language, the evolutionary progress of species.

"Somewhere between science and legend Totem explores the ties that bind Man to other species, his dreams and his infinite potential," added the group.

Featuring characters such as The Scientist, The Crystal Man, The Amerindian Dancer and The Tracker, each in a bizarre costume, the show promises a truly individual experience.

Tickets are already available for fans to snap up, with average adult ticket ranging between £25 and £75.
