London may not be at the top of many people's list when it comes to choosing a winter sports destination, but if the Alps seem like a bit of a stretch then you may be interested to hear that the capital is set to be converted into a snow-covered paradise later this month.
A number of the world's top skiers and snowboarders will be in town to take part in Freeze Festival, which takes place in Clapham Common from November 27th to December 1st.
Over the five days of the festival, the entire common will be transformed into an alpine arena, with temporary slopes being set up for the pros to strut their stuff.
Competitors from the US and Canada will be joining a host of Europe's top winter sports athletes, with the top ten international snowboarders all set to be in attendance.
Among the heats taking place will be a 'Hail the Rail' contents, which will see competitors pull out their most exhilarating moves for the chance to get their hands on the £12,000 prize.
As if that wasn't enough, Freeze Festival will also feature a fantastic line-up of live music, with DJs from around the world jetting in to entertain the crowds.
Among the headliners are French house producer Madeon and British Drum and Bade virtuoso DJ Fresh.
Actor Idris Elba – who stars in the hit TV show Luther and also plays Nelson Mandela in the upcoming biopic about the former South African leader – will also be taking his turn on the decks and playing some tunes for festivalgoers.
On top of all this, four themed après ski bars will also be set up in Clapham Common to help recreate the atmosphere of the world's most bustling ski resorts. Expect mulled wine, alpine cuisine and lots of fake snow.
