The London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) chair Seb Coe has thanked spectators for embracing the hosting of the Olympic Games in London.
It is estimated that close to three million people have already attended events and have provided great support for the competitors – both British athletes and overseas entrants.
“I’d like to say thank you again to the public for providing such a special atmosphere for the athletes,” added Coe.
Danny Boyle’s opening ceremony draw a television audience of 27 million in the UK and viewing figures around the world were also strong.
Many people, including those enjoying London hotel deals, will be looking forward to this Saturday (August 4th) when thousands of spectators are expected to line the streets of London to enjoy the marathon and the triathlon events. In total, the day will see a total of 21 gold medals awarded across all the Olympic sports.
Triathlon has become a major sport in recent years and the Olympic course is will based around London’s Hyde Park.
The event involves a 1,500 metre swim, a 43 kilometre bike ride and a ten kilometre run and it could be a great spectacle for those staying at nearby central London hotels as there are a number of free vantage points along the course.
Prime spots along the route include Hyde Park Corner or Buckingham Palace but people are reminded to get their early to ensure they are well-placed to see all the action. The women’s event take place on August 4th and the men’s event will be contested on August 7th.
