Could airport stress make London city breaks more appealing?

A London city break could be a great alternative to a holiday abroad this year, and there is plenty to keep tourists entertained.

Many holidaymakers may be enjoying staycations this summer and looking for London hotel deals to avoid stress at airports.

A survey by life assistance company CPP found that close to four million UK travellers have given up flying because of airport chaos.

While four out of five people book holidays to enjoy some rest and relaxation, the airport experience actually leaves a quarter of them feeling more stressed.

Now one in ten UK travellers are steering clear of the skies altogether and choosing alternative modes of transport.

Holidaying on home soil could be one alternative, and there is plenty to do and see in the country's capital.

If art and culture is your thing, then London is the place to go, as it has some of the best museums, art galleries and theatres in the world.

The shopping in London is also world-class, with everything from designer clothing and homewares to state-of-the-art electrical products on offer.

And in the evenings, visitors are spoilt for choice, with thousands of top restaurants, bars and pubs to choose from.

Of course those who want to avoid the hustle and bustle and give in to relaxation can do that in London too.

From luxurious spa treatments and hotel facilities to green open spaces and quiet neighbourhoods where you can sit back with a drink and watch the world go by.

Booking a break in London means there's no passport control and baggage checks to endure, and no waiting around for transfers to and from airports.

Almost half of those questioned by CPP said their holiday doesn't start until they've left the airport, but by driving to London, or booking first class tickets on the train, UK travellers can begin their trip much earlier.
