First Ambassador Pod opened

The first Team London Ambassadors Pod has been opened in the city by the mayor of London.

Boris Johnson launched the creation of 40 different pods across the capital that will help provide advice to visitors enjoying London hotel deals about the Olympic Games and other events happening over the next few weeks.

Each pod will be staffed by various people including youngsters aged between 14 and 19 who have volunteered to help the many tourists who will be visiting during London 2012 and give advice on travel, events and things to do across the capital.

The mayor said: "It is fantastic that 200 youngsters have given up their time to train as Team London Ambassadors and help welcome the world to our city.

"Volunteering during the Games is something that they will remember for the rest of their lives, and I am delighted that they are giving their time to be part of a 'Summer Like No Other'."

Each of the youngsters has been trained as part of the Rep London Programme, run by the East London Business Alliance and will be recognised by a special uniform which includes a polo shirt, trousers and a trilby hat.

Overall, more than 8,000 people will provide information at one of 43 different pods. Each of the special booths is based at a key location such as a travel hot spot, major landmark or at one of the BT big screen areas.
