Ideal Home Show smartphone app launched

A new smartphone app could be the perfect companion for those staying at luxury London hotels this month and plan to attend the 2012 Ideal Home Show.

Designed to be used with both iPhone and Android smartphone users, the Ideal Home Show Companion app will help visitors to the popular event at Earls Court Exhibition Centre to navigate their way through all the various sections and stalls and make the most of their time there.

The app uses GPS, mobile phone and WiFi positioning technology to determine the user's location and then help direct them to different areas of the exhibition, deliver real time information such as exhibitor news and a live schedule highlighting the most up to date timetable of workshops and events.

It is the first time such technology has been used for a consumer show.

"We have designed this app to make our visitors' experience as simple and smooth as possible," said Robert Nathan, groups marketing manager of the show organiser Media 10.

"Many of our visitors now carry smartphones so it makes sense to interact with them and provide show information directly into their hands. We want to make the experience even more interesting for visitors and more interactive for exhibitors."

Developed by West Midland-based Black Pepper Software, the app is downloadable free of charge ahead of the show, which runs from March 16th until April 1st.

Now in its 104th year, the Ideal Home Show is a longstanding highlight of the London events calendar.

This year will see more than 600 exhibitors take part, showcasing the latest in interiors, home improvements, gardens, gadgets, food and much else besides.

Highlights this year include cooking demonstrations at the Celebrity Chef Theatre and the Home of the Future – showcasing the latest in consumer household technology, including new product launches, gadgets, toys and future innovations.
