Le Nozze di Figaro comes to Royal Opera House

Music lovers staying at 5 star hotels in London may be interested in attending an upcoming performance of Le Nozze di Figaro, which comes to the capital in February.

Le Nozze di Figaro, otherwise known as The Marriage of Figaro, opens at the prestigious Royal Opera House on Saturday February 11th and is scheduled to go on until March 2nd.

The production, which is full of drama, wit and emotion, is a masterpiece of classical opera and is the final instalment in the Royal Opera House's three-part Mozart series – the other two being Don Giovanni and Cosi Fan Tutte.

David McVicar's production of the classical masterpiece stars a talented ensemble cast led by Ildebrando D'Arcangelo and Simon Keenlyside as Figaro and Count Almaviva respectively.

The opera also stars Aleksandra Kurzak as Susanna, Rachel Willis-Sorensen as Countess Almaviva, Anna Bonitatibus as Cherubino, Bonaventura Bottone as Don Basilo, Ann Murray as Marcellina, Carlo Lepore as Bartolo, Jeremy White as Antonio, Susana Gaspar as Barbarina and Harry Nicoll as Don Curzio.

Accompaniment comes courtesy of the Royal Opera House and the Royal Opera Chorus, with conduction from Antonio Pappano and Richard Hetherington.

Le Nozze di Figaro is set in revolutionary Europe around 1830 and revolves around Figaro's attempts to shield his soon to be wife Susanna from the advances of Count Almaviva.

Continuing on from the plot of The Barber of Seville several years later, Le Nozze di Figaro recounts a single day of madness (la folle giomata) in the palace of the Count Almaviva near Seville, Spain.

The story also includes themes of class tension, romance, and morality. Throughout the opera, Figaro expresses his hatred for the aristocracy and the upper classes, continually pointing out that they have less intelligence and lower levels of morality.

The opera is sung in Italian with English subtitles and tickets are priced at between £9 and £820.
