The draw has been made for the London 2012 Olympic basketball competition.
Made in Rio, the draw has decided the groups for the first round of both the men’s and women’s tournaments.
In the men’s event, Team GB will have to play the current European champions Spain, while the world champions will take on Argentina.
Great Britain’s women have been drawn against world number two Australia as well as Russia, who are currently the European champions.
London 2012 organising committee director of sport Debbie Jevans said: “The Olympic basketball tournaments will see some of the biggest basketball stars in the world come to London to compete for gold.
“Today’s draw gives us a glimpse of some of the exciting encounters, world-class players and top teams we’ll see in action this summer.”
The basketball tournament will start on July 28th with the first women’s group game, with the men’s championship beginning on July 29th, so anyone with tickets needs to make sure they take advantage of London hotel deals as soon as possible.
Most of the basketball games will be played at the special court arena within the Olympic Park. The temporary structure consists of 1,000 tonnes of steel and is covered in 20,000 square metres of a recyclable white PVC material. During the Games the cover will be used as a screen for projected light displays.
Work first started on the basketball arena in October 2009 and it was completed in June 2011 within budget – making it one of the fastest structures to be specially built for the Games, with the frame taking less than three months to build.
