London offers wealth of attractions ideal for Mother’s Day

Want to spoil your mum this Mother's Day (March 18th) but stuck for ideas? Why not book a couple of luxury hotel rooms in London and give her a trip she'll never forget visiting some of the top attractions in the capital?

London is home to a number of world-class attractions, many of which could be perfect additions to the itinerary of an unforgettable weekend for you and your mum.

A great example is Westminster Abbey, the setting of one of the biggest events of last year when the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge walked down the aisle of the historic building in April's Royal Wedding.

And it seems the extra publicity the event generated for the Abbey has significantly boosted visitor numbers, with figures from the Association of Leading Visitor Attractions (ALVA) released this week revealing that the building ushered 1.9 million visitors through its doors in 2011, a 36 per cent rise on the year before.

The Abbey featured on the AVLA's top ten most visited UK attractions for the first time as a result, and the list contains a number of other world-class attractions that could be perfect for Mother's Day.

Following the success of its Leonardo exhibition, the National Gallery saw visitor numbers rise by six per cent to over 5.2 million in 2011.

The Gallery will be exhibiting Titian's Diana and Callisto this month, which it recently acquired for some £45 million.

Alternatively, you could take a short trip outside the capital and visit Wrest Park in Bedfordshire, an English Heritage home which boasts one of the country's largest and most important 'secret gardens'.

The garden, which covers some 90 acres, welcomed just under 90,000 people last year after reopening for the first time since the completion of the first phase of a 20-year restoration project.
