The London Olympic Games are not the only big sporting event to be held in the city this year.
Starting on December 14th, London will host the popular Ladbrokes World Darts Championships, which will involve some of the top players from around the world.
The event will involve 15 days of competition, with the final taking place on January 1st and the championship is perfect for dart fans staying in central London hotels this month.
Held every year since 1993, the tournament is organised by the Professional Darts Corporation and is attracting increasing crowds every year as more big names and newcomers become involved.
For the first time the winner of the event will be given the Sid Waddell Trophy. The trophy has been designed by Sussex-based jeweller Mike Shorer and is in honour of the Sky Sports commentator who passed away in August this year.
Alexandra Palace in the north of London will host the competition and is well placed for those enjoying central London breaks.
Current champion Lewis Adrian will be hoping to win his third World Championship title and will play Gino Vos on the opening night on December 14th in a much anticipated high-profile opening session.
Other first round clashes include Robert Thornton against Magnus Caris, Paul Nicholson facing Co Stompe and Kevin Painter playing the winner of the opening game between Andree Welge and Leung Chun Nam.
The matches take place every evening from 7pm and tickets vary in price from £20 to £55. Anyone planning to attend the championship is advised to purchase their seats in advance otherwise they could be disappointed on the day.
