Noises Off celebrates 30 years of laughter

Top London hotels may soon be full of theatre lovers eager for a funny show as the celebrated Noises Off is set to continue its run at the Old Vic theatre until February 25th.

Ideally located for those in central London hotels, the farce was first seen at the Lyric Hammersmith in 1982 and was a long-running success for creator Michael Frayn.

Returning to the West End for its 30th anniversary, audience members are invited to follow the on-and off-stage antics and misfortunes of a touring theatre company.

Prop mishaps, forgotten lines and actor conflicts combine together for clumsy rehearsals, a shambolic opening show and a “disastrous” final night.

Directed by Lindsay Posner, Noises Off has raked in awards since its debut in the capital, including the Olivier Award and the Evening Standard Award for Best Comedy.

Ms Posner’s other West End credits include Fiddler on the Roof, Carousel, An Ideal Husband, A View from the Bridge and Butley.

The two-hour play has also accrued great popularity among reviewers in the press, such as the Guardian which awarded it five stars.

Describing the production as “one of the funniest plays you could ever hope to see”, the reviewer added that London “echoes with the sound of laughter”.

Characterisation and the acting talents of the stars were highlighted as the key to its success, which the Independent agreed with, saying: “[Noises Off is] a deliriously funny and beautifully cast seasonal treat.”

The Times, The Daily Mail and The Telegraph also peppered the latest production with five-star reviews, branding the show a “comic masterpiece”.

The celebrated cast comprises of Jonathan Coy, Janie Dee, Robert Glenister, Jamie Glover, Celia Imrie, Karl Johnson, Aisling Loftus, Amy Nuttall and Paul Ready.

Located down the road from London Waterloo Station, the theatre is easily accessible to those staying at The Montcalm hotel via the Underground station Marble Arch.
