Roddick has made it to three Wimbledon finals but has always failed to beat his main rival Roger Federer and explained to the Daily Mail that his fitness is starting to suffer as he approaches his 30s so this has impacted on his performance.
“I’m just trying to play in the moment. ‘I’m just here trying to win some matches. But do I think this could be my last Wimbledon? Possibly … but that’s so much of an unknown,” explained the US star.
He added: “Of the guys I started with, it’s only Roger [Federer] left now. We were in the top ten for so long, and everyone else’s body has been banged up.”
Roddick has been working with his coach Larry Stefanki to improve his game and get around the fitness issues but the player remains realistic about his long-term prospects, which means this could be his last Wimbledon as a singles player.
He will be spending a lot of his time in the capital this summer and tennis fans enjoying London hotel deals will be able to catch him in action at the at Queen’s Club this week, then at Wimbledon before he represents his country at the Olympic Games.
The Wimbledon Championships begin on June 25th to July 8th and the All England Club will also host the Olympics tennis tournament in August. The latter is expected to be a much more relaxed affair with the removal of the traditional white dress code and the green background to all the courts being livened up for the occasions.
