The January sales have started!

Calling all shopaholics! London's legendary January sales have now begun, so if you didn't get everything you wanted for Christmas and are in need of some retail therapy – or you just fancy a trip to the shops to burn off some of the extra weight you've piled on over the festive season – then now's the time to head to the capital.

Many people make the mistake of believing that the best time to go shopping is just before Christmas, as this is when many of London's most exciting stores put out their festive displays. However, the reality is that the real shopping happens from Boxing Day onwards, as prices come tumbling down.

Harrods, for example, is one of the most visited department stores in the world, both in the lead up to December 25th and in the weeks that follow, and anyone who didn't get a chance to set foot in the famous shop earlier this year will be thrilled to hear that it's sale started yesterday (December 26th).

This means that as well as enjoying the wonderful experience of looking around the luxury shop itself – something which attracts tourists from across the world, even those who have no intention of buying anything – you will also be able to bag some major bargains on high-class items from some of the top brands.

Indeed, Harrods is known for being the pinnacle of style and lavishness, which is why this is the best time of year to visit, as much of the stock will be considerably more affordable while the sale is on.

Elsewhere, London's two Westfield shopping centres also kicked off their sales on Boxing Day, so visitors looking to snap up a great deal will have the choice of heading east to Stratford or West to Shepherd's Bush in their search for bargains.

Both of these huge malls are among the largest in Europe and contain all the major high-street shops, so if you can't find what you want here then you probably don't want anything at all.
