Theatre fans planning on visiting London in the near future will be pleased to hear that the highly popular show Wicked has extended its booking period at the Victoria Apollo until November 1st 2014.
Based on the novel by Gregory Maguire, the musical is a spin-off from the Wizard of Oz and focuses on the story of two young girls with very different attributes who grow up together and eventually become the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good Witch.
Since opening in September 2006 the show has become one of the most popular musicals in the capital, largely thanks to the fantastic score created by Stephen Schwartz – who also provided the music for Disney film Pocahontas – as well as the fine performances of the excellent cast members.
Several of the performers will be replaced as of November this year, with Gina Beck leaving her role as Glinda and Savannah Stevenson stepping in, and Sam Kelly taking over from Keith Bartlett as the Wizard.
Directed by Joe Mantello and with Eugene Lee taking care of the set design, Wicked has become a real highlight of the London theatre scene in recent times, and is well worth considering by anyone interested in experiencing the very best of what the capital has to offer.
Tickets have been hard to come by over the past few years as the musical’s reputation has grown, resulting in sold-out shows almost every night. For that reason it will come as welcome news that the musical’s booking run has now been extended until the latter part of next year. Giving yet more theatregoers the chance to see for themselves just why Wicked is so highly rated.
Located right next to Victoria station, the Apollo Theatre is also within walking distance of a number of top London attractions including Buckingham Palace, St James’s Park, Westminster Abbey and Parliament Square, while Victoria Bus Station is also just a few minutes away.
