2012 London Book Fair to showcase Chinese literature

20th March 2012

This year's London Book Fair will have a particular focus on Chinese literature and publishing, it has been announced.

Taking place annually at Earls Court, one of the biggest event venues in London, the London Book Fair attracts authors, agents, publishers and other industry figures from across the UK and all over the world.

Each year, the publishing industry of one particular country or region is highlighted as part of the London Book Fair Market Focus programme, with organisers selecting China for the 2012 event.

This will see a spotlight cast on publishing trade links with China, its publishing industry and the opportunities for conducting business with the rest of the world.

A number of Chinese writers will be selected to attend the fair, representing the diversity of Chinese writing in all genres and inclusion of both established names and new writers.

They will also take part in discussions and talks at the fair, covering topics such as From Page to Screen, Modern Chinese Masters: A Female Perspective, Writing for the Digital World and The Art of Publishing Literary Magazines.

Susie Nicklin, director of literature at the British Council, which helped organise the London Book Fair's China focus, said: "It has been a privilege working with our colleagues and partners in the UK and China and we look forward to showcasing the best contemporary Chinese writing as well as giving UK audiences the opportunity to experience the amazing breadth and diversity of Chinese literature today.

"This is also part of our ongoing work to create a cultural dialogue between our two countries, with further visits by Chinese authors to Britain taking place throughout the year as well as visits by British authors to China."

It was announced recently that Chinese writer Bi Feiyu will be the book fair's Author of the Day on the second day of the event, with Feiyu scheduled to appear to talk about his work.

The 2012 London Book Fair runs from April 16 to 18th.
