A few top tips for getting the most out of Notting Hill Carnival

6th August 2014

London's biggest street party is set to take place in Notting Hill over the August Bank Holiday weekend, so if you're planning on joining the more than one million people who are expected to be in attendance then you can be sure of having a truly exhilarating time.

However, with so many revellers lining the streets of this famous area of West London, you might find that the whole scene becomes a little intense, which is why it's important to do a little planning in order to make sure your time at the carnival goes as smoothly as possible.

For instance, the first thing you'll need to do is to plan your route to the festivities. Many of the local tube stations, including Ladbroke Grove, Notting Hill Gate and Royal Oak, will be either closed or exit-only, so you might find that you have to adjust your travel plans in order to reach Notting Hill itself.

Fortunately, those staying in the Montcalm London Marble Arch will be able to get there with the minimum of fuss, as the hotel is located near to Marble Arch tube station, which is one the Central Line and is therefore well connected to area in which the carnival is taking place.

Another thing to think about is what to do if you get separated from other members of your party. With so many people, this is something that can easily happen, which is why it's a good idea to set meeting points.

You may also find that your toes get trampled when walking through the crowd or dancing by one of the sound systems, so it might be wise to wear closed-toes shoes rather than sandals or flip-flops, as this will provide a little extra protection.

Above all, though, it's important to make sure you enjoy the carnival as much as possible, and the best way to do this is to get into the spirit of things. So, be sure to try some of the amazing street food on offer, and check out as many of the sound systems as you can.
