Charity performance of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory announced

17th September 2013

Of all the great plays and musicals being staged in London this year, a special performance of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is sure to be among the most popular, with the show aiming to raise funds for BBC Children in Need.

Taking place on November 7th at the Theatre Royal on Drury Lane, the performance will be hosted by BBC Radio 2 DJ Sir Terry Wogan, and is sure to be a hit among adults and children alike.

Based on the famous book by Roald Dahl, this popular musical - which is currently in the middle of a run at the Theatre Royal that will last until at least May of next year - tells the story of one little boy's experience at Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory after receiving a coveted golden ticket.

Bringing the tale to life with masterful use of puppetry and special effects - not to mention fine acting and music - the show has already proved a hit among audiences in the West End.

This is hardly surprising, though, given the star names behind the production. Among them is director Sam Mendes, who also directed last year's smash hit James Bond film Skyfall and won an Oscar for the 1999 movie American Beauty.

Music, meanwhile, comes courtesy Marc Shaiaman, who picked up a Grammy Award for his role in the popular show Smash, and Scott Wittman, winner of the same award for Hairspray.

All costumes have been designed by the man behind the wardrobe of Mamma Mia, Mark Thompson, while dance choreography for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory has been put together by Pete Darling, who also created the steps for Billy Elliot and Matilda.

By snapping up a ticket to the show, not only will you be guaranteed an evening of unrivalled entertainment in the heart of Theatreland, but you'll also be helping out a great cause, with BBC Children in Need providing essential support to thousands of underprivileged youngsters.
