Check out the More London Free Festival this summer
Summer is always a great time to be in London, and when the weather's nice you can be sure of finding some superb open-air events to enjoy. What's more, many of these are absolutely free to take part in, so a trip to the capital during the warmer months of the year could end up being more affordable than you think.
For example, the More London Free Festival is currently taking place on the South Bank, and will be running all through the summer, finishing at the end of September.
So, make sure you get down to the river at some point over the coming months, as there's sure to be something of interest to you taking place here.
The events and activities are mainly focuses around the area known as the Scoop, which is an open-air performance area situated just beneath the intriguingly-shaped Mayor's office.
Anyone planning on making it to the Scoop this week, for example, will have the chance to enjoy a range great shows as part of the Free Fringe, which will be running until June 20th.
However, if you're not going to be able to get to London in time for that then fear not, as there's plenty more to come over the next few months.
From June 23rd until July 6th, for example, a giant LED screen will be erected at the Scoop, showing live coverage of the Wimbledon tennis championships.
Following this, a series of lunchtime musical performances will be held at the space from July 9th to 25th, while a theatre season entitled the Ring Circle Plays will then be launched on August 6th, running until the end of the month.
In keeping with tradition, the festival will close with a series of open-air film screenings in September, with recent hits such as Philomena and the Life of Pi set to feature this year, alongside classics like The Goonies and many others.
The Scoop is located close to both Tower Bridge and Monument tube stations, both of which are easily accessible from the Montcalm Hotel.
