Discover Australian art in London this autumn

23rd September 2013

As the summer draws to a close and is replaced by the chilly autumn and winter months, many people begin to dream of heading somewhere sunny and warm like Down Under, and while a flight to Australia may be a bit of stretch for some of us, the chance to discover the country's artistic heritage in London is a pretty good compromise.

A brand new exhibition has just opened at the Royal Academy of Arts featuring a huge number of pieces created in Australia, all of which tell the storey of this iconic land.

Made up of paintings, sculptures, sketches, photographs and other mediums, the display - simply entitled Australia - contains more than 200 works created by artists from all walks of life, including an impressive array of aboriginal art.

Many of the pieces on display have never been seen before in this country, and offer an amazing insight into life Down Under over the past two centuries.

Running until December 8th, Australia at the Royal Academy of Arts provides an excellent opportunity for anyone who'd like to learn more about the landscape, history and culture of this amazing country without having to sit on an aeroplane for 26 hours.

Located in Burlington House in the West End, the Royal Academy of Arts can be reached from Piccadilly Circus and Green Park tube stations, and is within walking distance of a number of central attractions including Regent Street, Oxford Street and Buckingham Palace.

Tickets for the exhibition are priced at £14 and visitors to the museum will also be able to see a brand new sculpture which has been erected in the Royal Academy's Annenberg Courtyard and reflects the theme of the collection, encapsulating the essence of Australia's history within a British setting.

Among the pieces included in the exhibition are paintings of legendary outlaw Ned Kelly, depictions of Australia's famous outback and a number of contemporary works representing modern life Down Under.
