Discover the best of British comic art at the British library

19th February 2014

The British Library contains the world's most extensive collection of literature, which means whatever genre you happen to be into, you're sure to find something of interest here.

Fans of comic books, for example, will be delighted to hear that the world-famous book depository is set to host a spectacular and truly fascinating exhibition called Comics Unmasked: Art and Anarchy in the UK.

Running from May 2nd until August 19th, this unique display will be a real one-of-a-kind and is not something that fans of graphic novels will want to miss.

Aside from getting the chance to see some rare artwork by some of the greatest illustrators in the history of British comics, visitors will also be able to learn more about the impact that this entertaining yet socially significant - and at times subversive - art form has had over the centuries.

Indeed, going on display will be a number of Victorian-era comics, as well as many unseen works and some well known ones too - such as V for Vendetta.

Several comics by Dave Gibbons - whose most famous works include the likes of Watchmen and who has been nominated for several prestigious awards, such as the Locus Award for Best Science Fiction Novel - will feature in the collection, including a rare early work called The Trials of Nasty Tales.

The aim of this incredible exhibition is to shed light on the way that the art form has dealt with some of the most controversial topics in British politics and society over the years, tackling issues like violence, drugs and social dissent in ways that conventional literature can't.

The British Library is located on Euston Road, just a short walk from both King's Cross St Pancras and Euston stations, and the upcoming display is set to be the greatest comic book-related exhibit ever held in the UK.
