Experience the wonders of Indonesia in London

9th May 2014

The idea of jetting off to some of the world's most exotic destinations is something that appeals to us all, yet unfortunately isn't always possible, due to time and money constraints. However, by taking a trip to London at the end of this month, you'll be able to experience the wonders of a far-flung place without having to leave the country.

That's because a fantastic free festival is to be held in Trafalgar Square to help promote the culture of Indonesia, providing Londoners with the opportunity to get a close look at the culture of this exciting and exotic country on the other side of the world.

Entitled Hello Indonesia, the event will be taking place on May 31st and will involve a broad range of entertainment options, culinary offerings and shopping opportunities.

Among the highlights of the festival are a series of traditional performances by Balinese dancers, as well as gamelan musicians from java - who will be playing instruments such as the angklung and the sasano - with all participants to be flown over from Indonesia for the occasion.

There will also be more than 20 market stalls spread out around the famous square, with some of London's leading Indonesian restaurants teaming up with one of the south-east Asian country's most famous chefs in order to provide an authentic taste of the island nation.

On top of all this, visitors will have the chance to chops for traditional Indonesian handicrafts, as well as ingredients so that they can recreate the dishes on offer once they get home.

Speaking about the event, Esthy Reko Astuty - the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy's director general of marketing - said: "we are encouraging consumers of all ages to join us at this free festival and learn more about this culturally-rich gem in South East Asia, with dynamic entertainment that we hope will enthral and inspire every visitor passing through Trafalgar Square."

The square itself is of course one of London's most famous landmarks, and is easy to get to from the Montcalm Hotel Marble Arch.
