Gardening event to take place at the Olympic Park

28th May 2012

Keen on gardening? Then why not take advantage of some London hotel deals next month and apply for tickets to the BBC Gardeners' Question Time Garden for the Games special on June 14th?

The event will be held at the London 2012 Aquatics Centre and will give a chosen group of listeners to the Radio 4 programme an exclusive sneak preview of the Olympic Park gardens.

Experts have been hard at work creating beautiful meadows, lawns, wetlands and floral displays to act as an aesthetic backdrop to the Olympic and Paralympic Games this summer.

Among the green spaces is a half-mile stretch known as the 2012 Garden, designed by Chelsea Flower Show gold medallist Sarah Price and containing 120,000 plants from 250 different species. It is divided into four regions - Europe, the Americas, Asia and the Southern Hemisphere.

Not only will attendees to the BBC special be able to view these gardens, but they will also be able to speak to the green-fingered gurus behind them to pick up some expert gardening tips.

Seb Coe, chairman of the London 2012 Organising Committee, said: "The new meadows, gardens, wetlands, woods and lawns in the Olympic Park will be enjoyed by millions of spectators and TV viewers during the Games and for generations to come.

"Gardeners' Question Time have followed the experts creating this parklands and this Garden for the Games special is a great opportunity to bring listeners into the park along with people across the UK that are using the Games as an inspiration to brighten up their area."

Other highlights of the gardens include a riverside Royal Horticultural Society Great British Garden which overlooks the Olympic Stadium and features bronze, silver and gold areas, and new habitats for animal species such as otters, kingfishers, grey herons and newts.
