Isabella Blow exhibition to open at Somerset House

21st October 2013

Along with Paris, Milan and New York, London is one of the world's leading cities when it comes to fashion, and anyone with an interest in the rag trade will know that Somerset House is among the central venues within the capital's fashion scene.

Home to the London Fashion Week, as well as housing the studio of famous designer Corrie Nielsen, this historic landmark has gained a reputation for putting on some of the best fashion-related events in Europe, and with a host of fantastic shows and exhibition set to take place over the coming months it will certainly be living up to its name this autumn and winter.

Among the best events scheduled for the final quarter of the year is an exhibition entitled Isabella Blow: Fashion Galore! which will showcase more than 100 pieces of clothing from the wardrobe of the late fashionista.

Blow first rose to prominence in the 1980s when she entered the fashion world as the assistant of Anna Wintour at US Vogue, before working at other institutions including Tatler, British Vogue and the Sunday Times Style, where she became fashion director.

Famous for helping to discover major designers such as Alexander McQueen, Philip Treacy, Julien MacDonald and Hussein Chalayan, Blow has earned a reputation for having an excellent eye when it comes to recognising trends and creativity.

Many of the pieces on display as part of the exhibition were created by these designers, and have all been taken from Blow's personal collection of garments.

She also played a pivotal role in launching the careers of several of the world's leading models, including the likes of Sophie Dahl and Stella Tennant, and photographs of these figures and many others will also be on show as part of the display.

The exhibition will run from November 20th to March 2nd, and Somerset House as located at the northern end of Waterloo Bridge, which can be reached from Covent Garden tube station.
