Jean Paul Gaultier exhibition to open at the Barbican
As one of the power-houses of world fashion, London is always bursting with clothing-related events and attractions, not to mention the flagship stores of all the biggest designer labels on the planet.
Countless couturiers have chosen to base themselves in the city over the years, and even those who don't call the city home regularly visit the British capital to make connection with their contemporaries and keep up with all the latest trends.
It should therefore come as no surprise to learn that London is among the best places in the world to immerse oneself in the fashion industry, and an upcoming exhibition at the Barbican Art Gallery is yet more proof of this.
Entitled The Fashion World of Jean Pail Gaultier: From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk, the display will open on April 9th and aims to provide an insight into the mind of one of the most famous designers of recent times.
Consisting of nearly 200 items created by the celebrated fashionista, the exhibition aims to detail Gaultier's rise to the top of the industry, shedding light on the themes which have influenced his styles as well as his relationships with models and celebrities.
Among the pieces on show will be the famous conical bra that Jean Paul Gaultier designed for Madonna to wear during her Blonde Ambition world tour in 1990.
Other designs that feature in the exhibition have been worn by the likes of Kylie Minogue, while several costumes from Luc Bresson's movie The Fifth Element will also be on display.
Known for his avant-garde style and unconventional themes and motifs, Gaultier is considered one of the most forward-thinking designers of all time, and has collaborated with world-famous photographers and artists like Andy Warhol, David LaChapelle and many others.
