Let the Right One In to open in West End

25th February 2014

Over the past few years, several themes have popped up time and again in global popular culture. Among these is the vampire craze, with films like the Twilight Saga and TV shows like True Blood helping to fuel the interest in these creatures of the night; another is a general affinity for all things Scandinavian, with Swedish, Norwegian and Danish books, films and television productions taking the world by storm.

Let the Right One In is a novel by Swedish writer John Ajvide Linqvist that combines these two trends, focusing on the relationship between a young boy and a vampire who befriends him in Stockholm. Having already been adapted into a film - and then re-made for English-speaking audiences - the story has become hugely popular around the world, and is now set appear on stage in London's West End.

Opening on March 26th, the National Theatre of Scotland's production of Let the Right One In will be showing at the Apollo Theatre, which is now ready to re-open following an incident in December which saw the venue have to close after plasterwork fell from the roof during a performance of The Curious Case of the Dog in the Night-Time.

Having picked up the theatre prize at this year's South Bank Awards, the play has received rave reviews wherever it has been performed, and its run in the capital is currently scheduled to last until September 27th.

Directed by Tony Award winner John Tiffany, the show has been described as "for adults and fearless teens aged 13+", and is sure to be one of the hottest tickets in town once its run at the Apollo Theatre starts.

So, if you've been gripped by either the Scandi-crime craze or the vampire fad that has swept the globe over the past few years, a trip to the West End this spring or summer could well be the perfect way to spend an evening.
