London 2012 film programme announced

When they're not watching the Olympic sporting action, visiting top museums and art galleries or dining at one of the city's many world-class restaurants, guests at luxury

London hotels this summer may also want to catch one of the several special film screenings taking place as part of the London 2012 Festival.

The festival will see a number of one-off cultural events taking place across London throughout the summer as part of the 'Cultural Olympiad' being held in the run up to the Olympics.

And film is set to form a central component of the festival, with the full programme for screenings released this week.

Highlights include a release by Twentieth Century Fox and the BFI of a digitally remastered version of multi Oscar-winner Chariots of Fire.

The BFI will also present a selection of Alfred Hitchcock's early British masterpieces in a series of one-off screenings across London with live orchestral accompaniment. 

This includes a screening of the newly restored The Ring to be shown at Hackney Empire with soundtrack by multi-award winning artist Soweto Kinch.

BAFTA winning filmmaker Asif Kapadia and three other renowned directors have been commissioned by BBC Films and Film 4 to create short films especially for the festival.

These films will receive their London premiere at the Hackney Picture House on June 25th.

The London 2012 Festival film programme will also serve to showcase some of the UK's young filmmaking talent.

Thirty short films made by 14 to 25-year-olds from across the UK have been selected to be screened at iconic venues during the Games.
