London Jazz festival returns to Barbican this autumn

2nd September 2013

London is without a doubt one of the top cities n the world for live music, with all genres well represented in the capital and all of the best artists on the planet stopping off here when touring - which is why it should come as no surprise that this year's London Jazz Festival is set to feature a truly stellar line-up.

Taking place at the Barbican Centre over several days in November, this amazing musical extravaganza will be kicking off with an opening night gala on the 15th, performed by a 40-piece orchestra, with all music for the event being scored by celebrated British trumpeter and composer Guy Barker. Tickets for this particular event are priced between £15 and £35.

Two days later, genre-leading group ASC will be performing at the centre in what promises to be a truly amazing show. Made up of Geri Allen, Terri Lyne Carrington and Esperanza Spalding - three of the leading female instrumentalists in modern jazz - the ensemble first teamed up to work on Carrington's Grammy Award-winning album The Mosaic Project and have been getting rave reviews since making their stage debut at New York's Villafe Vanguard.

Tickets for ACS's Barbican show can be purchased for as little as £10, with the more expensive seats being priced as £25.

On the same night (November 17th), legendary saxophonist and composer Wayne Shorter - who has previously worked with the likes of Miles Davis, Art Blakey and Weather Report - will be joined by pianist Danilo Perez, bassist Patitucci and drummer Brian Blade for what will surely be one of the highlights of the festival.

Celebrating his 80th birthday on the night, genre-defining Shorter will also be joined on stage by the BBC Concert Orchestra to perform some of the famous musician's latest songs.

Anyone staying in central London hotels can reach the Barbican by taking the Circle, Hammersmith and City or Metropolitan lines, with the centre having its own station.
