London's Southbank to become Winter Wonderland
A winter festival is set to transform the banks of the River Thames into a perfect winter experience.
The Winter Festival at the Southbank Centre begins on November 16th and will be perfect for those staying in central London hotels during the festive season.
A number of markets are taking part in the festival so ideal for selecting unusual gifts for family and friends. The Real Food Winter Market will also be held to showcase a whole range of food and drink goodies to make that perfect Christmas party or event.
There are a number of workshops on how to make Christmas cards and various gifts planned as well as carol singing and dancing in the Southbank Centre's Clore Ballroom.
As part of the Winter Festival, the venue is also hosting various shows aimed at adults and children. A production of the Little Match Girl will run from December 13th to December 30th and Karoll Karol will be showing from November 30th to December 2nd.
Other highlights across the capital include the annual Christmas tree that is erected every year in Trafalgar Square in the heart of the city.
"London acquires a special sparkle around Christmas time. The weather is frosty, the Christmas lights are twinkling, and shoppers line the streets," explained Visit London.
"The centrepiece of London's Christmas spectacle is the giant pine tree - a gift to London from the people of Norway - which is beautifully adorned and set up in Trafalgar Square each year."
Meanwhile, another winter wonderland will be created London's Hyde Park from November 23rd. The special venue will be home to the UK's largest outdoor ice rink, various Christmas markets and Santa's grotto.
