Madame Tussauds planning special celebration for Chinese New Year

7th January 2014

The western new year may be well and truly underway already, but the Chinese calendar is only just drawing to a close, and London is going to be a fantastic place to be when the Year of the Horse begins on February 1st.

It's well known that the capital is home to a large Chinese population and much of the hype will inevitably be centred around Chinatown, which is located next to Leicester Square in the West End and is famous for its many excellent Oriental restaurants.

However, if you want to really get into the spirit of things then you might want to pay a visit to Madame Tussauds, as the world-famous attraction is planning to pull out all the stops to ring in the Chinese New Year.

To kick things off, waxwork models of Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan – two of China's most famous actors and martial arts experts – will be shipped over from the Hong Kong and Shanghai branches of Madame Tussauds, taking up residence in London when the Chinese calendar runs out on January 31st.

The following day will then see a range of fantastic celebration take place at the venue, with the whole building set to be lit up in red – China's national colour.

All visitors will receive a free fortune cookie upon entering, giving them an insight into what the coming year has in store for them, while a number of special performances will be taking place throughout the day – including several renditions of the famous Lion Dance.

Located on Marylebone Road, Madame Tussauds is within easy access of many West End attractions and is just a stone's throw from Baker Street tube station, the Sherlock Holmes museum and Regent's Park.

Aside from enjoying the Chinese New Year festivities, guests can also explore the 14 separate interactive zone that make up the attraction, as well as the Marvel Superheroes 4D movie experience.
