Monty Python to reunite in London

22nd November 2013

Comedy fans across the world are celebrating what are some are referring to as the holy grail, following the news that all surviving members of the Monty Python group are set to reunite for a one-off show in London next year.

The five legends of comedy have not appeared together in more than three decades, with their last performance having taken place in Los Angeles in 1980. It's even longer than that since they put on a show in the UK, which is why this announcement has been greeted with such excitement.

Famous for the sketch show Monty Python's Flying Circus, as well as films such as The Meaning of Life, the Holy Grail and the Life of Brian, the British comics have taken the world by storm since forming the group in the 1960s, and many of them have gone on to great things since last appearing as an ensemble.

John Cleese, for example, is one of Britain's most iconic comedic actors and directors, having starred in Fawlty Towers as well as a number of mainstream movies, including playing the role of Q in a number of James Bond Films.

Michael Palin, meanwhile, has made a series of successful travel documentaries, while Eric Idle went on to write the music and lyrics for the popular stage show Monty Python's Spamalot, which is based on the work of the famous group although doesn't star any of its members.

The one-night-only London show will take place on July 1st 2014 at the O2 Arena, with tickets going on sale from November 25th this year.

Idle will be directing the show, which he has described as a mix of "comedy, pathos, music and a tiny piece of ancient sex".

Cleese, meanwhile, has promised fans that the show will include several of the group's most famous sketches along with a smattering of new material, saying: "People do really want to see the old hits but we don't want to do them in a predictable way."
