Paddington Bear to take over London this autumn

23rd July 2014

Get your marmalade sandwiches and raincoats ready, because Paddington Bear is set to take over London later this year, in preparation for the release of his very own movie at cinemas across the UK on November 28th.

To celebrate the return of everyone's favourite Peruvian grizzly, VisitLondon have teamed up with StudioCanal and the NSPCC to create a special Paddington Bear Trail, which will see 50 statues of Paddington himself placed on plinths at various locations around the city.

Each of these models will measure exactly 3ft 6in - the same height as Paddington, according to author Michael Bond, who first invented the famous bear way back in the 1960s.

The Whereabouts of these plinths have not yet been disclosed, and it will be up to tourists and locals to try and track down all 50 of them in the lead-up to the film's release.

They will be in place for the duration of the month of October, so if you're looking for a great activity to keep the kids occupied during the first half-term of the school year, a trip to London could be the perfect solution.

Speaking about the new initiative, Mayor of London Boris Johnson said: "As a long-time fan of Paddington Bear I'm delighted that this world-famous, marmalade-loving, duffle coat-wearing, polite but notoriously accident-prone bear will be celebrated by Londoners and visitors to our great city, with the launch of this fantastic trail."

Remember, too, that London is home to a number of excellent cinemas, so if you happen to be in town during December and want to see the film in the very city in which Paddington made his name, then you'll have plenty of chances to do so.
