Pantomime season line-up taking shape in London
It may be more than three months until Christmas, but the preparations have already begun for the festive season, with theatres around London announcing their pantomime line-ups.
Among the highlights is Potted Panto at the Vaudeville Theatre, which is something of a mish-mash of all the best pantomimes, and returns following hugely successful stints in previous years.
Running from December 8th to January 5th, the show will feature classic scenes from everyone's favourite festive stories, including the likes of Aladdin, Jack and the Beanstalk, Snow White and many more.
Elsewhere, Dick Whittington will be playing at the Theatre Royal Stratford East, with a modernised version of the story of the country man who became mayor of London being presented, whereby Dick is forced to navigate the streets of modern east London and put up with Olympic crowds. The show will open on November 23rd and will run until January 11th.
Further south, meanwhile, the New Wimbledon Theatre is to put on a production of Aladdin, with famous comedian and TV personality Jo Brand making her panto debut as the Genie, alongside former Stars in their Eyes host Matthew Kelly. Bookings are currently being taken for performances, with the show set to run from December 6th to January 12th.
Pantomime action will be on show all across the capital throughout the festive period, with west London being the place to go if you fancy seeing the old classic, Jack and the Beanstalk. From November 23rd to January 4th the Lyric Hammersmith will be taking a break from its secret theatre season to play host to the show, while Henry Winkler - better known as the Fonz from Happy Days - will be playing the role of Captain Hook in the Richmond Theatre's production of Peter Pan.
Wherever you're staying in London this Christmas, you'll be surrounded by excellent pantomime shows - there could even be one behind you.
