Photographers' Gallery reopens today!

17th January 2014

Among the many world-class art galleries and museums that have helped to make London one of the best destinations on the planet for culture vultures is the Photographers' Gallery, which reopens today (January 17th) following a period of refurbishment.

Located on Ramillies Street, which is just a short stroll away from Oxford Circus tube station, this fantastic venue is widely considered to be one of the best galleries of its kind in the world, with several highly-acclaimed exhibits being staged each year.

Anyone who has been waiting for the gallery to reopen will be thrilled to hear about the three displays that are opening today, with some of the most iconic figures in 20th century popular culture having their works on show.

David Lynch: the Factory Photographs, for example, will be running until March 30th, and contains a range of images taken by the famous filmmaker - known for his unique surrealist style - during the late 1980s and early 1990s.

The shots in the exhibit were taken in England, New York, Germany, Poland and New Jersey, and depict decaying and dilapidated factories and other industrial structures.

At the same time, a second exhibition entitled Taking Shots: the Photography of William S Burroughs will also be running until the end of March, with the famous Beat writer - known for his unique books such as Naked Lunch and Junkie - having been a prolific photographer.

Interestingly, his pictures have never received much mainstream attention, and this exhibit is the first to focus exclusively on his photography rather than his writing.

Finally, a series of shots taken by pop-artist Andy Warhol between 1976 and 1987 will also be on display at the Photographers Gallery, ending on the same day as the other two exhibits.

Visitors can gain admission to all three displays with a single ticket, which costs just £4. When visiting the gallery, be sure to spend some time in its excellent bookshop, where you can browse through a range of photography-related paraphernalia.
