Red carpet to roll out for London Film Festival

9th September 2013

London is no stranger to the glitz and glamour of the film world, with blockbuster movies regularly having their European premieres in Leicester Square, although once a year the city truly comes alive with the magic of Tinseltown as the stars roll into town for the BFI London Film Festival (LFF).

This year's LFF - the 57th edition of the prestigious event - will run from October 9th to 20th and is set to boast an amazing line-up of long and short films, while all of the most famous faces from the movie world will be in the capital for the festival.

A total of 234 fiction and documentary films will be shown - with 22 of these having their world premieres at the festival and 29 being given their European debuts - along with 134 shorts. All of this will be complemented by an incredible programme of talks, workshops and master classes conducted by leading directors, actors and technical crew members.

Tickets are available for a huge number of events, with screenings being held at venues across London including the iconic Ritzy in Brixton, the Hackney Picture House and the many cinemas that can be found in Leicester Square - such as the Odeon, Vue and Empire.

Opening the LFF will be the European premiere of Captain Phillips, which tells the story of the 2009 hijacking of the US container shop Maersk Alabama by Somali pirates, directed by Paul Greengrass (whose previous works include the Bourne Supremacy) and starring Tom Hanks.

Sandra Bullock and George Clooney, meanwhile, will be on show in their new 3D sci-fi movie Gravity, which recently opened the Venice Film Festival and has received rave reviews.

Other highlights include a screening of 12 Years a Slave, which sees Michael Fassbender reunited with Shame director Steve McQueen alongside Brad Pitt and Benedict Cumberbatch, while the Coen Brothers' latest film Inside Llewyn Davis - which stars Carey Mulligan and Justin Timberlake - will also be on show.
