Royal Opera House plans Alice in Wonderland production

31st January 2013

Families staying in central London hotels may be tempted by a special production of Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by the Royal Opera House.

The stage version of the famous story opens on March 15th until April 13th and is passed on the 2011 ballet adaption by Christopher Wheeldon - the first new piece commissioned by the Royal Ballet for 20 years.

Jody Talbot provides the musical score, while the set has been designed by Bob Crowley and makes use of puppetry, projection and masks to bring the famous story to life.

Of course all of Carroll's favourite characters feature in the tale, including the Queen of Hearts, the grinning Cheshire cat and the Mad Hatter.

The famous story tells the tale of a young girl named Alice who, upon falling down a rabbit hole stumbles upon a weird and magical world. As her attempts to return to reality progress, she simply finds that her adventure deepens, meeting a number of surreal and colourful figures along the way.

One of the highlights of the whole piece is a love narrative for Alice and the Knave of Hearts and they dance a tender pas de deux at the close of Act Two.

Tickets start at £49 and the Royal Opera House is at the heart of Covent Garden and is easy to reach for those staying in luxury hotels in London.
