See Cirque du Soleil at the O2 Arena

10th July 2013

Few spectacles are greater than a Cirque du Soleil show, so fans in London should be delighted to hear that the world-renowned contemporary circus troupe will be gracing one of the capital's vastest venues this month.

They'll be performing Alegria, a production that premiered in Montreal back in 1994 to commemorate the company's tenth anniversary and has rarely departed from international stages since - being seen by an estimated ten million people in total. Some 55 performers make up the show's massive cast, counting among their number dancers, acrobats, contortionists and world-class musicians from 17 different countries.

Cirque du Soleil is scheduled to perform seven times over four days at the O2 Arena, beginning next Thursday (July 18th) - so if you're booked into hotel accommodation in London this month, you'll have a small handful of opportunities to catch this must-see production.

Alegria is a Spanish word meaning jubilation, happiness and joy, which should give some clue as to the overall mood of the show. Audiences will be treated to a lively showcase of stunts, by turns magical and death-defying; these include synchronised trapeze acts, a fire-knife dance, juggling and balancing.

The show's music is no less intoxicating - performed live by a talented and flexible ensemble, it incorporates a heady blend of influences from Spanish, French and North African musical traditions.

On Thursday, Friday and Saturday, evening performances kick off at 8pm; earlier shows are also available on Saturday and Sunday. A full list of times can be found on the O2 Arena's website.

Tickets are available at £45 and £55 price points, depending on whereabouts in the venue audience members choose to sit. Would-be attendees are warned that demand is sure to be huge - booking seats in advance is highly advised.

The O2 Arena is located in North Greenwich, a short trip from the city centre; as one of London's busiest venues, it's easily accessible via public transport. Those travelling via the tube should join the Jubilee line.
