See Dirty Dancing at the Piccadilly Theatre

10th July 2013

London's Piccadilly Theatre is gearing up for what promises to be one of this summer's hottest West End attractions - a much-anticipated revival of the Dirty Dancing stage adaptation, which opens this weekend.

The show graced the London stage for the first time in 2006 and it proved phenomenally popular, consistently selling tickets for a full five-year run. Fans of the classic movie who haven't yet been seduced by this adaptation are urged to let it work its charms - it was penned by the original screenwriter Eleanor Bergstein, so expect equally fabulous characters and no shortage of classic lines.

Dirty Dancing tells the story of 17-year-old Baby - played by Jennifer Grey in the film - who spends the summer of 1963 in the company of her family at a Catskill Mountains resort. She meets and falls head over heels for dance instructor Johnny - a role immortalised by the late, great Patrick Swayze - and develops a taste for racy Cuban dancing into the bargain.

A timeless coming-of-age story, Dirty Dancing's gripping narrative is accompanied by one of cinema's best-loved soundtracks. Expect songs like Hey Baby and Hungry Eyes to take pride of place in the stage adaptation - not to mention the Oscar-winning (I've Had) The Time of My Life, which contributed hugely in making the film's magnificent finale so memorable.

Show-goers will also hear a handful of songs exclusive to the stage adaptation, among them There Will Be Another You and Someone Like You - written especially for the delectation of live audiences.

The Piccadilly Theatre production kicks off on Saturday (July 13th) and is expected to run until February 2014 at the earliest, so those with romantic London getaways planned during the coming year can book tickets as soon as they desire.

Those staying in the city centre should find the venue easy to reach. If travelling via the London Underground, they should head towards the Piccadilly Circus tube stop.
