Sundance Film Festival to return to London in 2014

25th November 2013

Some of the world's greatest actors and directors will return to London next year as Robert Redford brings his Sundance Film Festival to the city for a third time.

Since being set up by the award-winning actor back in 1981, the festival has firmly established itself as a true highlight of the film industry calendar, offering movie lovers the chance to catch hot new releases as well as reworked classics.

And, while it was once just for Americans to enjoy, Redford recently decided to run a London version of the festival, with the 2014 event promising to be the biggest and best yet.

Taking place over the last week of April, Sundance will be held at the O2 Arena, in the east of the city, and, while the exact line-up is yet to be released, it has been confirmed that it will feature many of the films that get the warmest receptions in the American event earlier in the year.

Additionally, the organisers are inviting amateur film-makers to submit works to be judged in the Sundance London Short Film Competition, with the winning entry to be shown on the big-screen during the festival itself.

Announcing the news, John Cooper, director of Sundance, said: "We look forward with great excitement to hosting the third Sundance London in April.

"In keeping with the event’s purpose of celebrating independent artists, the short film competition and workshop allow us to tap into the vibrant artistic community in the UK."

Sundance is far from the only film festival due to take place in London over the next 12 months.

Further enhancing the city's reputation as a global cultural leader, a large number of festivals will be held over the course of 2013, the first of which, the London Short Film Festival, will take place at various venues across the capital in the middle of January.

Also taking place in 2014 are the BFI London Film Festival and the Imagine Children's Film Festival, both of which are held on the South Bank.
