Sundance London announces dates
Culture lovers may soon be rushing to book rooms in central London hotels to take in the cinema offerings at the Sundance London Festival.
Robert Redford's Sundance Festival in Utah will arrive at The O2 from April 26th to 29th 2012 and will feature films as well as music events across the capital.
The opening night of the festival will see a live "in conversation" event between Redford and American musician and producer, T Bone Burnett.
Burnett has won Academy, Golden Globe and Grammy awards for his film Crazy Heart, which starred Jeff Bridges.
An ideal event for film fans staying in central London hotels, the pair will discuss various projects they have worked on over the years and share their favourite musical moments from other movies, while the conversation is set to be moderated by novelist Nick Hornby.
Although the exact details of the London event have yet to be revealed, it has been claimed that the 14 films shown at the Utah celebrations early next year will all make their UK debut during the festival.
Among the top performers at last year's Sundance, visitors enjoyed screenings of Senna, Like Crazy, Another Earth, Tyrannosaur, Martha Marcy May Marlene and Project Nim.
"Your history is a lot deeper and a lot longer than ours and it's a history that I've admired and also the culture, I've wanted to come [to London]," the Hollywood legend told Sky News.
"We've gone to other places in the world with the Sundance Channel but never our festival. Our festival is so much about independent film in America... but it seemed like after 15 years of our festival it might be time to take that festival in maybe an abbreviated form and take it to another country."
Redford said he hoped that the festival would present a different view of America that may be missing in Hollywood's exports.
