Swallows and Amazons takes to the Vaudeville Theatre

30th December 2011

Families may soon be looking for hotel accommodation in London in order to catch the widely-praised production of Swallows and Amazons, which closes its doors on January 14th.

The new musical play with songs by Neil Hannon and based on the book by Arthur Ransome has been a roaring success with the press pouring four and five star ratings on the actors.

Audience members are promised to be entertained by the tale of children on a sailing adventure in the Lake District.

"All aboard the Swallow! Follow Captain John and his able crew as they set sail to Wildcat Island on an exotic adventure to encounter savages, capture dastardly pirates and defeat mortal enemies," explained the theatre group.

Taking place in the West End Vaudeville Theatre, within arm's reach of many central London hotels, the play has enjoyed the well-wishes of numerous theatre critics.

"This joyous production for all ages celebrates youthful freedom and the imaginative power of the inner child," commented the Financial Times, which awarded the show four stars.

The Times described the experience as "thoroughly entertaining" saying it is "beautifully balanced" and perfect for all ages.

Rave reviews may come as a result of the show's production crew of theatre-veterans, including director Tom Morries, who co-directed international smash-hit War Horse, writer Helen Edmundson of Coram Boy-fame and music from Neil Hannon, who worked on The Divine Comedy.

The Telegraph awarded the show five stars and reviewer Charles Spencer described it as funny, fresh and inventive.

"If you find a better family show on offer this festive season, feel free to send me the dreaded black spot," he added. "This is a show of wonder and delight... Catch it if you can."

The Vaudeville Theatre is located up the Strand from Charing Cross Road station, easily accessible from The Montcalm via the Underground Station at Marble Arch.
