Tickets going fast for Miss Saigon

13th September 2013

Miss Saigon will be making its long awaited return to London's West End next year, with tickets now on sale.

Opening on May 3rd at the Prince Edward Theatre, the show is expected to be one of the major attractions for any visitors to the capital in the coming years, and the current booking period runs until October 25th.

However, anyone who wants to see the famous musical may want to secure their seats sooner rather than later, after the show set a new box office record, with first day sales totalling a whopping £4.4million.

This eclipses the previous record set by The Book of Mormon, which took £2.1million on its first day, and also beats the Broadway record, currently held by The Producers which pulled in £1.9m when tickets first went on sale back in 2001.

Having initially played in London some 25 years ago, Miss Saigon has gone on to become one of the most successful and popular musicals of all time, being translated into 15 different languages and being staged in more than 300 countries around the world.

Based on Giacomo Puccini's opera Madame Butterfly, Cameron Mackintosh's show is set in 1975 during the final days of America's occupation of Saigon, as a young Vietnamese woman named Kim falls in love with a GI named John.

Speaking ahead of the show's second coming in the capital, Mackintosh said: "I find it hard to believe that it is already 25 years since I first premiered Miss Saigon in London, where it became the greatest success ever in the long history of the Drury Lane Theatre and went on to be a phenomenal success around the world."

The show is being directed by Laurence Connor and will feature a brand new song entitled Maybe, which has been composed by Claude-Michel Schonbeg and will be sung by Ellen during the second act.
