Brit winners Bastille say London is world's best city

20th February 2014

Bastille, who won the best breakthrough act award at last night's Brit Awards ceremony (February 19th), have expressed their love for the capital city, insisting that it is the best place to live - and visit - in the world.

Speaking to Timeout, the four-piece synthpop band gave a few details of just why they consider the British capital to be such a fantastic place to be.

Guitarist Will Farquarson, for example, explained that there's nowhere else on the planet that offers so much in the way of live music, with just every genre represented on a nightly basis.

Reminiscing about the days when he used to attend gigs rather than play them, he said: "I used to work in the Dublin Castle [a popular pub in Camden]. I remember I did shifts there five days in a row, and there were five bands on every night - and that's just one pub in north London! The whole of London is just teeming with music."

Of course, there's more than just music to enjoy in the capital, with the city being home to a large number of the world's best museums, shops, restaurants and more - not to mention the historic buildings and other sites that are dotted around the centre and along the Thames.

When it comes to eating, Bastille lead singer Dan Smith recommends Monty's Delhi in Maltby Street Market, which can be found in Bermondsey, just a short walk from London Bridge and the Shard. "It does the best pastrami sandwich in London," he claims.

They say the music be the food of love, so it should come as little surprise that one of the country's hottest musicians knows a thing or two about where to grab a bite to eat.

Whatever you happen to be looking for in a travel destination, you'll certainly find it in London, so rather than relying on the testimony of Britain's top breakthrough act, why not head over to the city and discover what all the fuss is about for yourself?
