City Girl blogger shares favourite places

5th January 2012

Tourists staying in 5 star hotels in London looking for genuine experiences of the capital should take heed of the advice given by Kate Ingram - the famed author of the City Girl Diaries.

Hoping to share her love of the city's culture, history and shopping experiences, the author of the expose blog hopes to inspire visitors.

Postman's Park on King Edward Street is her top secret city location, ideal for those taking in the central sights of London but hoping to enjoy some green spaces as well.

"Nestled unassumingly on the edge of London's financial district, Postman's Park is a beautiful green space and spiritual sanctuary," she explained.

The park is a tribute to ordinary people who lost their lives saving others, with the central piece being the Memorial to Heroic Self Sacrifice.

This includes a touching memorial to Henry Bristow, who in 1890 at the age of eight years old saved his little sister from a fire at the cost of his own life.

She continued: "Postman's Park is a special, humbling place to sit upon a bench and take a step back from the bustling world beyond."

Art lovers in central London hotels may want to stop in on the Estorick Collection of Modern Italian Art, which the blogger says is a "treat".

Sir Nicholas Serota, director of the Tate, agrees, describing it as: "One of the finest collections of early 20th century Italian art anywhere in the world."

Also suggested, Queen's Square in Bloomsbury was praised for its "grand, attractive architecture" which the blogger remarks is "magical".

An ideal spot for history buffs, the venue was first set out in 1716 and was once known for being a centre of healing.

Shoppers may want to head off to Sublime, a retailer full of independent Scandinavian fashion labels.

Ms Ingram commented: "[Sublime is] a treasure trove for the shopper looking for something different, your first trip here will certainly not be your last."
