Discover Latin American Film

26th October 2011

Guests staying at central London hotels looking to indulge in foreign cinema may be interested in the Discovering Latin America Film Festival, taking place in the capital across November.

The celebration promotes the best of the region's cinematic talent at the Institute of Contemporary Arts, the West End and Tate Modern screens.

Featuring documentaries, full-length films and shorts, the festival aims to bring thought-provoking master pieces from Latin America that span the whole spectrum of topics dominating life in the region.

World-acclaimed Argentine director Daniel Burman, Costa Rican director Paz Fabrega and the Mexican filmmaker Patricia Riggen will present the premiere of Revolution at the Tate Modern on November 22nd.

"Our multi-faceted festival is different because it makes a difference," remarked festival director Stephen Hart and artistic director German Martinez.

"We not only have the most cutting-edge film programme going but our non-political organisation also supports the underprivileged people of Latin America. This year we are supporting Salcet in village of San Carlos (El Salvador) to create a new, much-needed drainage system."

By attending the group's film events, audiences will not only get to see some of the best cinema from the region but they will also be supporting a worthy cause.

Among the various offerings, visitors to the capital can catch the Latin America in Shorts presentation on November 27th, promising to deliver a variety of movies that portray life in the region.

Additionally, the city will host premieres of Aqui te esperao, an exploration of the immigration process, Por mis hijos, the story of an illegal immigrant who travels to Spain, and comedy Meet the Head of Juan Perez – a black comedy about a second-rate magician's misadventures.
